100 things that make me happy

A few days ago my infectiously happy friend posted a blog with 100 things that make her happy. You can read it here http://www.iaminfectiouslyhappy.com/.   She challenged everyone that read it to create there own list. I stepped up to this challenge. (it’s tougher then it sounds)  However I had no intention of sharing this list with all of you. It was a very personal thing when I started it. But after reading my friends list and numerous others by people I have never met, I decided to share the love. And I challenge all of you to create your own list. Because it’s not just about listing things that make you happy. Its about taking the time to remember them and smile with each memory. Or in the words of peter pan “remember your happy thoughts”. I’m sure you are going to learn a few things about me after reading this list. You might  see some things that don’t make a lot of sense or you might see some things we have in common.  Just know that I poured my heart out and was 100% real in writing it. This is me. And I hope I can inspire you to find your happy thoughts today.

and so it begins…

Well it has happened….My screaming demanding 4 pound baby boy has grown up. He will officially start kindergarten this wednesday. As of right now I’m doing pretty well. Of course this might change wednesday morning when I have to walk him through those school doors. Thats why I decided to do a “mini” school shoot before his first day. His new school made the perfect backdrop. He’s super excited and can’t wait to start.  Here is a peek at our brand new Kindergartner.

my busy July

I know my blog has been a little quiet this month so I thought I would share with all of you what I have been up to.  Vacation Bible school!!! I volunteered to direct VBS for my church last  summer and after a year of planning, months of building and weeks of decorating we finally pulled it off. I did manage to squeeze in a few photo shoots during the month and will blog about them very soon but for now here is just a small peek at what I’ve been up to. if you can’t tell our theme was SKY! The sky’s the limit and nothing is impossible with God.I had a blast and hope we touched a lot of little hearts.

(please excuse any exposure issues with these images they are un-edited,  straight out of the camera.)

Words can not express -Charlotte Children’s Photography-

This was probably the most fun I’ve ever had photographing my son. I decided at the last minute to change the location and  do it at Winthrop ( my alma mater, woohooo!) the campus could not have been more beautiful and Emory really had fun walking around all the old buildings. My husband was the absolute perfect assistant for this job and by far the cutest! (sorry Claire). No one can make Emory laugh the way he can. He even had me cracking up making “bathroom” noise’s behind me. I could not be happier with the outcome and can’t wait to hang these on my walls. Words can not express how much I love my family. enjoy this peek….

P.S…. bribery goes a long way…esp. when you want a little boy to wear a cute hat!

Even superheroes have birthdays!! -behind the lens-

Hello My name is Laura and I’m addicted to birthday parties. You can ask just about anyone that knows me and they will confirm. I go a little over the top when it comes to party planning. I just love it.  This past weekend we celebrated my sons 5th birthday….superhero style. I planned a whole “super hero training academy”. To earn their place in the justice league each child had to complete the training course which consisted of Walking over hot lava, leaping tall buildings in a single bound and rescuing Batman from the evil Mr. Freeze. The kids LOVED it and I actually had a really great time as well. here’s a couple shots from the big day

Each child got their own cape. (super easy to make out of old t shirts, no sewing required)

Cake pops!!!! mmmm mmmmmmmm (my favorite part)

The evil Mr. Freeze froze Batman in a block of ice. The kids had to rescue him with their super squirters. This was by far the favorite activity at the party!

our squirters came in handy for LOTS of other things too!! (really so easy to make and the kids just loved them)

All superheroes must know how to leap tall buildings in a single bound

or at least knock them down!

watch out for the hot lava pit…

all superheroes need to practice their flying skills in the bounce house (and dads too)

my birthday boy!

Thanks for reading friends and sharing in my joy.

Behind The Lens

I starting thinking the other day how you all invite me into your homes and into your lives. Something as simple as taking pictures can bond us. I love talking with you and getting to know you all. I’ve decided I’m going to invite you into my life as well.  Over the next few months I’m going to post a few blogs that are little more personal. Just so You guys can get to know me for me. Of course, now that I’ve said that I’m not sure what to post here. I think to start things off today I’m just going to give a few random facts about myself.

I am very in love with my husband and he still makes my heart skip a beat.

I have a soon to be 5 year old named Emory that amazes me everyday.

I collect lots of random things just because they make me smile. I even have a bouncy ball collection with well over 1000 bouncy balls. (I know….crazy)

I live in a house that is two doors down from the house I grew up in and right across the street from my grandmother. (and I love it)

my best friend and I love to go junk hunting at antique stores. It really is true what they say, “one mans junk is another mans treasure”.

well because I can’t post a blog with out a photo here’s a picture my husband took a few months ago. After over a decade of trying I think I finally taught him a thing or two about taking a good picture.  Thanks for reading friends.
